During FITUR 2025, one of the leading international tourism events held at IFEMA Madrid, we proudly unveiled with weRespect the new pilot project for tourist coexistence in Mallorca. This innovative initiative aims to promote sustainability and foster harmonious relationships in the vacation rental sector, in collaboration with key partners such as Roomonitor.
A project to promote harmony
The pilot project focuses on implementing tools and strategies to improve relationships between guests, vacation rental owners, and local residents. Led by weRespect, this program seeks to strike a balance between the economic benefits of tourism and the preservation of community well-being in destinations like Mallorca.
The presentation, introduced by Gabriel Pérez (Head of Public Relations at weRespect), featured Jaume Bauzà, Minister and Director General of Tourism for the Government of the Balearic Islands, Sara Rodríguez, Head of Public Policy & Campaigns at Airbnb, and Maria Gibert, Manager of the Association of Tourist Homes and Apartments of the Balearic Islands (HABTUR).
How will the program work?
The mediation process will include the following steps:
- Receiving the request: weRespect will handle requests related to conflicts involving vacation rentals.
- Referral to the mediation service: The request will be assigned to a professional mediator.
- Conflict analysis: The mediator will meet with the involved parties—both neighbors and property managers/owners—to gather information.
- Proposing a solution: A joint resolution will be developed and formalized in an agreement signed by both parties.
- Follow-up: The agreement will be monitored for 60 to 90 days to ensure compliance.
Roomonitor and weRespect: leveraging technology to reduce tourism’s impact
WeRespect is an initiative launched in 2018 by Roomonitor in collaboration with industry associations. As part of this project, one of our key contributions has been the installation of noise monitoring devices in vacation rentals, alongside other initiatives.
These devices have proven highly effective, resolving 57% of noise-related incidents in under 28 minutes in 2023. With this technology, we not only enhance community harmony but also contribute to the professionalization of the sector.
A scalable model for tourism destinations
The pilot in Mallorca has the potential to be replicated in other tourism destinations facing similar challenges. Its emphasis on collaboration between property managers, local communities, and innovative technologies makes it a model that can inspire other regions. At Roomonitor, we are proud to support initiatives that prioritize coexistence and sustainable development.
